Celebrating World Book Day 2023
World Book Day was celebrated on Thursday 2nd March and to mark this very special day in St Francis of Assisi, we took part in a variety of reading themed activities throughout the week. These included completing reading challenges and quizzes, studying various stories, creating book covers and storyboards using the app Book Creator and writing and illustrating short stories.
Some of our classes took part in our Extreme Reading Photo Challenge. This involved being photographed reading in a strange or unusual place. We had some fantastic pictures including children reading at the monument and even up a tree! Well done everyone!
Many of our younger classes paid a visit to Keady Library where they learned all about the services that our local library offers. They were also treated to a storytelling session, art activities and received a tour of the library also. The children received a membership form to become members of the library and we encourage them to do so.
We also had a very special visitor to our school this week from South Armagh author and illustrator, Paula Reel. Paula shared her lovely story, The Dream Team with some of our younger classes and completed a writing and illustration workshop with some of our older children. During the workshop our children worked in groups to write and illustrate their own children’s stories which they shared with our younger classes on World Book Day. They had some fabulous ideas and their stories were a joy to read. Watch out Paula; you have some competition here in Keady! More information about Paula’s book, The Dream Team can be found at the following link:
